Intermiel, the world of bees, a world to discover!

Did you know that Intermiel is part of the Culture program at school, scientific culture section.

Since 1991, the company has adopted an educational mandate so that school children, particularly those in preschool, kindergarten and primary school, can learn about and understand the “world of bees”. Intermiel’s mission is to demystify the role of the bee and to raise awareness of its vital role in our food plate as a pollinator within our ecosystems.

Beyond the knowledge about the bee itself, we want to make you aware of the environmental impacts, the dangers that threaten it and dispel the myths and fears that surround it. We want to make you want to protect them by showing you what actions you can take on a daily basis for their survival.

The bee is an insect that plays a vital role in our environment. We will talk about the importance of her pollination work and her essential role in our food plate.

A world to discover

This educational program was designed and tested by certified teachers eager to share their passion. The visit involves a didactic approach and is a combination of observation, manipulation and play activities.

Our qualified and dynamic guides, with their enthusiasm to communicate, help our young visitors safely learn about bee society, the complex life of a beehive, the importance of pollination, the role and work of the beekeeper, and the extraction of honey and other products given to us by this fascinating insect that is so important for our environment and our lives.

A puppet theatre puts bees on stage so that children can learn about this noble and captivating society through interactive activities, including songs and gestures. In the discovery room, a wall of bees created from six distinct beehives allows the children to observe the dance of the bees, the toiling of the housekeepers, the larvaes, the broods, the queen, her court, and much more.

This educational guided tour also offers the opening of an active beehive with a beekeeper in an enchanting garden. Occasionally, a child can put on a beekeeper’s outfit to get near and even pet the bees. Then, in the extraction room, turning the handle of the extractor and watching the honey flow from the combs signals the end of this fun and enriching experience; naturally, this is accompanied by a few obligatory tastings of honey to tickle the taste buds.

The site is designed to allow visitors to peacefully take advantage of the natural setting of our vast property, to have a picnic under the trees with the children, to admire the animals at the mini-farm, and to feed, pet and take care of the young rabbits and goats, as well as our miniature horse.

The program is adapted to the age of the students, from pre-school to college-level.

An educational visit to Intermiel is an opportunity to set goals for our way of consuming and treating the environment and to educate children and adults to take concrete actions for the survival of pollinating insects while developing their critical mind.
